UNIT 470 BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING AUGUST 16. 2014
Present : Bob McLaren, Iris Chung, Bev Drill, Katie Fagan, Mary Farrell, Lily Johannessen, Mary Phillips.
Minutes of the June 15, 2014 Board Meeting were approved as circulated
Treasurer”s Report: Cash Balance: $16,898. Loss: Year to Date: $3528 . We lost $700 on the July
sectional. The loss is not unusual because many members travel during July.
Tournament and Club Chair Report: (1) Bev distributed, for the Boards information and comment,
a draft schedule of the Unit’s request for use of Ala Wai from January-June, 2015. (2) The Unit will
continue to hold the 35 Years & Counting Sectional and reaffirmed its earlier decision not to archive the
list of honorees on the website. The Sunday Swiss will honor Karen Lanke. Lily will purchase the lei. (3)
Bev, Lily, Mary Farrell, Wally and Iris will inventory the supplies at Ala Wai on August 24. (4) The Board
approved the purchase of a set of Howell Movement cards. (5) The final NAP qualifying game will be held
Hospitality Chair Report: Mary Farrell and Katie will assume the hospitality duties of Muriel’s 299er
IN program when she is away.
Publicity Chair Report: The program for the 35 Years & Counting Sectional is on the website and has
also been printed and distributed. Coupons for the $8 discount Sunday Swiss entry fee have been sent
to Patrick. A letter thanking Tony Kuh for his 35 years of support plus the free play for any Sectional or
Saturday/Sunday Unit pairs game has been mailed. There will be an August/September newsletter.
Old Business: (1) The final numbers are in for the Longest Day Tournament . The Unit will donate $1500
to the Aloha chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Iris will contact the Association to set a date for the
check presentation. (2) Thus far, there has been no response to the letters sent to Mayor Caldwell.
New Business: (1) The Board decided that the Board-A-Match format was not suitable for our sectionals
but could be considered for a Saturday/Sunday Unit game. (2) Bob clarified the Unit's responsibilities for
Zero Tolerance infractions. (3) Gay Conklin presented her Education Liaison Report which is appended to
