UNIT 470 BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING NOVEMBER 23, 2014
The meeting was called to order by President Bob McLaren at 11:00 am at the Ala Wai Club House.
Present : Bob McLaren, Iris Chung ,Bev Drill, Katie Fagan, Mary Farrell, Mary Phillips.
Excused: Lily Johannessen, Arun Savara.
Minutes: The Minutes of the October 26, 2014 meeting were approved and will be placed on
the web site.
Treasurer’s Report: Cash Balance: $16,407. Operating Loss : $3879. Total Loss: $4870. $2000 rent for Ala Wai has been paid to the City and County of Honolulu.
Tournament/Club Chair Report: Sectional fee schedule - Starting with the Honolulu Sectional in March, 2015, entry fees are as follows: Pairs: $8 per player. Sunday Swiss: $76 per team (this includes a $3 lunch charge). 0-100 players who play in the Saturday game will pay a discounted rate of $10 per player for the Sunday Swiss. Bev also emphasized the need for directors.
Patsy Lum has offered the use of the Community Church of Honolulu. When the details are finalized, our Saturday games will be at CCH starting on January 3, 2015. Iris will circulate a flyer with driving directions. Godfrey Chang will assume the scheduling of the Unit Saturday and Sunday games and Muriel Stitt will schedule the appropriate directors.
Hospitality Chair: The purchase of cake and cookie mixes for baking by members to be served at the Sectionals has been a success.
Old Business: Merle Stetser was reappointed as the District 20 Representative
New Business: Educational Liaison Report: Anne Neithammer, Acey, and Ann Russell helped Gay Conklin man the exhibiters table at the Schools of the Future Conference, Nov. 6-7, 2014 at the Hawaii Convention Center. Positive responses were received from Mid Pacific Institute, Ahuimanu and Punahou. In addition, Gay sent follow up emails to those individual attendees who signed up for more information. Gay has asked HUBUA for financial assistance. The Board will reimburse Gay if there is any deficit. 2015 Iolani Summer School Program. Acey has volunteered to teach the first session. Gay is looking for a volunteer to teach the second session: July 5-24. Karen Lanke Memorial donations: Arun will purchase a microphone system with these funds. Board Roster and Election Swiss: Since no names were transmitted to the Secretary, Bob will present the following slate to the members at the Election Swiss on December 7, 2014: Iris Chung, Connie Ditch, Katie Fagan, Bob McLaren, and Bill Pearman.
He will also invite Connie Ditch and Bill Pearman to attend the Board’s January Meeting.
I/NA Program: Muriel Stitt scheduled monthly lecture/lunch and NLM game sections. Lecturers included Iku Donnelly, Godfrey Chang, Pat Kallaus, Pat Brown, Arnie Drill, Wally Young , Gay Conklin and Mark Bennett. The program has been very well received and there were at least 5 tables in the NLM section. Coni Holland and Cheryl McIlroy assisted with the phone calls and Katie, Bev and Mary Farrell assisted with the hospitality. The Board approved Muriel’s proposal to continue this program in 2015 and also approved financial assistance if necessary.
