Minutes of October 21, 2012 Board of Directors Meeting
Members present: Anne Niethammer, Dick Swanson, Bob McLaren, Gay Conklin, Marty Leftik and Bev Drill.
Excused: Mary Phillips, Iris Chung, and Katie Fagan
President Gay Conklin called the meeting to order at 11:37 at the Ala Wai.
Dick Swanson made a motion, seconded and the board approved the September minutes as circulated.
Membership –Marty Leftik reported we have 393 members in Unit 470. Marty suggested a website link that members could use to request partners for particular games – The Walnut Creek club, Unit 499, has such a site. We would like to have access to free advertising – newspapers etc.
Hospitality - no report
Tournament – Bev Drill reported that today, October 21st is the last day to sign up for the NAP B & C flights
and the A flight. The first game in 2013 will be a Sunday game, January 6th at Academy of the Pacific.
Web Site Manager – Dick suggested a website for posting interesting bridge hands that would include submissions and comments. Some type of administrative control is need over the hands picked to be posted. The website continues to be modified and upgraded. Gay will continue updating Director photos to be posted on the site.
Publicity- Iris Chung submitted a written report. The board has purchased seven new Lifetime Tables for the AlaWai. Other tables were transported to AOP to be used for the Saturday games. Thanks to Wally and Dennis for setting up and moving the tables. The Garden Island Sectional Program has been approved by ACBL and is ready for printing. The Tom Lum Sectional Program was printed and distributed last week and copies made available to club games in Kailua and the Elks. Free Play cards for the Regional were mailed to the “35 Years and Counting” novice winners and Muriel Stitt will handle the distribution of free play cards to the Jim Bishop and Tom LumSectional novice winners.
Annual meeting - The Annual Meeting will be held February 17th, 2013 at the Ala Wai. Time and schedule will be announced later.
Dealing Machine – The dealing machine has arrived and is being used. Patrick Kallaus will be in charge of maintaining the dealing machine. Patrick suggests directors receive an additional fee for building the boards and printing the hand records generated by the machine.
Election of Unit Board members - Gary Rosenthal is in charge of the nominating committee and reported progress in recruiting Unit members to run. Gay will coordinate with Iris on developing a ballot –the ballots should be distributed 15 days before the elections. The 2-session Election Swiss will be held on December 16th at the Ala Wai;lunch is included.
Members are asked to refrain from wearing perfumes or scents on game days as some members have allergies.
The meeting was adjourned at 12:37 pm. The next meeting will be held Sunday November 11, 2012 at the Ala Wai. The starting time will be announced.
